




East Liberty nonprofit Youth Enrichment Services Named 2019 Champion in Action

The New Pittsburgh Courier has learned that Youth Enrichment Services (YES), a nonprofit providing socially and economically at-risk youth the opportunity to achieve success through participation in mentorship, education and enrichment programs, has been named a 2019 Champion in Action in the category of Youth Leadership. The award, announced jointly by Citizens Bank, WPXI-TV, Trib Total Media and Pittsburgh Cares, includes $35,000 in unrestricted funding as well as promotional and volunteer support for the organization’s outstanding work, according to a release.
Youth Enrichment Services (YES) provides empowerment, experiential opportunities, academic enrichment and summer employment as positive pathways to future success. YES partners with local organizations to create synergy and generates transformative stories, national accolades and positive research outcomes.

RICKY RICHBURG (he, him, his)
Intervention Specialist
Ricky Robert Richburg Jr. is a Pittsburgh native, born and raised. A former PPS student himself, Ricky attended Westinghouse High School (Class of ‘98) and furthered his education on a full basketball scholarship at Robert Morris University. There he studied and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communications.
After obtaining his degree, Ricky moved to various places (North Carolina, Georgia, and California) where he engaged in social services work for nearly 18 years. In the field, he has held positions such as Wraparound Facilitator, Child & Family Specialist, SA Counselor, Group Home manager, and Gang Prevention specialist, just to name a few. Ricky returned to Pittsburgh in January 2022 to give back, assist, and support Pittsburgh youth who hail from the same communities in which he grew up. His mission is to educate and inform young people that there is more to life and the world beyond Pittsburgh, and that if he can make it and prosper in different cities/states, they can too.
In his role as an Intervention Specialist at YES, Ricky offers young people knowledge, life lessons, encouragement, and advice as they navigate their daily stressors, questions, goals, and aspirations.
