College Prep

Why Sign-Up?

Planning for college is extremely time consuming and sometimes stressful.  Being a part of the College Prep program with YES gives you support every step of the way.  We give you individual attention, help with SAT scores, application processes, choosing a college, and much more!

College Prep (CP) is designed for 11th and 12th grade students.  There are 5 components embedded in CP guiding students toward post-secondary readiness.

  • SAT Prep

    • Weekly sessions are held giving youth the opportunity to gain personalized assistance with their SATs.  Sessions are 3 hours in length and consist of English and Math workshops, writing, and practice exams.  This is ideal for students who are looking to improve their SAT scores, or be more prepared for their first time taking the exam.

  • iMentor Meetings

    • Students are paired with a YES staff member to begin planning for college.  Staff assist students in choosing a college or university, filling out applications, ensuring students have all the necessary paperwork completed and turned in, assessing their needs/wants in a college, etc. YES staff work with students twice per month to customize a plan and timeline specific to student needs.

  • College 101

    • Once a month students attend a College 101 session to learn more about financial aid, major selection, campus life, etc.  All of those factors are extremely important when choosing a college or university.  College 101 gives students the chance to ask any and all questions they have regarding all aspects of college; the application process, financial aid and scholarships, school selection, and other concerns.

  • College Application Development gives students time to come and fill out applications, write application essays, and work on their resumes and cover letters.  Colleges have different application processes, which can be overwhelming for students. As such, YES staff is here to help streamline the process and make it less stressful on them. Students also have a chance to receive edits and feedback on their writing, so they adhere to college and university application standards.
